Vinnie's first show with Sting..!?

has just popped up on dime! It is an amazing soundboard show, and, if we believe the torrent's claim that it is Vinnie's first gig with Sting, it's a fairly important record of the Vinnie/Sting alliance at its inception.
I wholeheartedly recommend that you all go get this if you can - Vinnie sounds [b]so[/B energetic, and it's fascinating to hear him playing some stuff from the 'jazz' age of Sting's output. Kenny Kirkland is also still in the band - as this lineup predates the Soul Cages band with David Sancious.
I will check out the claim that it's their first gig together ( I am a bit of a Sting geek)and post the results of my research.
Enjoy it - it's jumped straight to the number one playlist on my iPod, and, when you consider all of the absolute Vinnie gold that's surfaced recently....well, I just love this stuff. [img]biggrin.gif[/img] [img]biggrin.gif[/img]

P.S. Holy crap, the show was in Uruguay!? Weird... I have some family there, been there a few times too. The last place I'd expect VC to debut with Sting! I gotta hear this!

the first gig was the amnesty gig vinnie speaks of in many interviews when talking about how he got the gig with sting..they called him back a few days after his audition cos sting had to honour some other appointments before oficially announcing vinnie.

Then he flew back to london, they rehearsed for a few days and flew to south america to play the amnesty gig.

He said it was a coincidence because he said he would only go on the road with sting or peter gabriel and then he got the gig with sting and got to play with peter gabriel on his first sting gig who joined them on stage...

Im pretty sure thats what i read in the interviews...

this may be from the same trip to south america though, plus its in the 90s so it is essentially the beggining! Earliest show i've ever heard of

"I didn't tell anybody because the word wasn't definite, but a day and a half later, the management called to make it official. So I went to England, we rehearsed for five days, and about two days into rehearsal, Peter Gabriel showed up. We were scheduled to do some gigs in South America for Amnesty International, and Peter rehearsed with us and then played the gig in Chile with us. It was great. So I got to work with both of them--the only two guys I would have gone on tour for."

he doesnt specify actually if the chile gig with peter gabriel was the first one of the concerts in S.A

The first show with Sting was in fact Uruguay.

The .txt file in the download is called "Sting Estadio Centenario Montevideo 10 october 1990 (SDB) "
Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay. If DSOP is correct then this could well be the first show!

...Ok...after listening to this all the way through all i can say is Hooooooooleee Phuck!!!
Vinnie just lays it down, and I nearly wet myself when the band segued into 'I Burn For You', in anticipation of a Vinnterpretation of Omar's showstopping solo in Bring on the Night. Alas , 'twas not to be, altough he gives a masterclass in tastefull grooving and oh-so delicate fills...then the whole thing develops into a glorious version of 'Little Wing/From me to You' - just so inspiring to hear this lineup improvise and take flight - Kenny Kirkland's piano solos - wow!
